You Can Increase Your Chances Of Getting Pregnant
Statistics show that about 90 million couples world over and 11 million in the United States try to become pregnant. There is a 20% chance of becoming pregnant in any menstrual cycle. Hence it is no surprise that couples become stressed and discouraged. Any fertile couple takes about 5 to 6 months to conceive, but this time can be reduced to about 3 to 4 months provided they are aware of certain basic facts. Studies have demonstrated that a fertile couple’s chance of getting pregnant is very high. In cases of infertility, specific treatment must be undertaken to increase the chances.
If a couple has been diagnosed and declared suitable and healthy for conceiving but still struggle to get pregnant, they need to bring about some changes in their lifestyle and diet. There are natural ways to combat this problem and increase the chance of getting pregnant. When a couple is aware of the times they are fertile, the chances of conception increase. In each menstrual cycle, there is a period of two or three days when a woman is most fertile. This is when she ovulates.
Ovulation usually occurs around the fourteenth day of a regularly occuring 28-day menstruation cycle. Under normal conditions a single mature egg is released by the ovary. It awaits fertilization for a period of 12 to 48 hours before it falls to pieces. All these facts pertain to those women who have a regular 28 days menstrual cycle. The period of ovulation provides the couple a very high chance of getting pregnant.
Doctors recommend some lifestyle changes to the couple to improve their chances of conceiving .
- If the woman has been on contraceptive pills, it is time for her to stop taking them. It takes a few months thereafter for the woman’s cycle to gain normalcy. This rule applies to contraceptive rings and patches as well.
- Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is also important. Smoking, consumption of alcohol and drugs largely lower the likelihood of conception and can cause other problems like premature birth, low birth weight babies or even miscarriage. Also, smoking has considerable chances of lowering the sperm count in men.
- Women should have maintained a healthy weight (neither high nor low) at the time of conception. Women with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of below 20 or above 30 could find it relatively difficult to conceive.
- Reduction in the intake of coffee, tea and cola drinks is also suggested.
- Fertility is also related to the mind. Women who are mentally depressed might find it hard to conceive.
Self-help books are another source a couple can consider to increase their chance of getting pregnant. These books discuss in detail what must and must not be done in order to conceive. A rightly chosen book usually carries expert medical advice that is authentic and helps many couples reach their goal}.
