What To Expect With Your Second Pregnancy
If you have been trying to get pregnant with your second child, and it has been some time since you had your first, you may find that it is harder to get pregnant this time.
That could be just one of the differences between your last pregnancy, and the one you are contemplating now, or have started.
This time, of course, you are more likely to recognize the early symptoms of a pregnancy.
As was very likely last time, expect your breasts to feel tender as one of the first signs. They may be painful, particularly when you are tired or at night, and they may become enlarged, making your usual bra uncomfortably tight.
Feeling tired during the day, and even needing a brief nap when this is something you’d never normally want is another signal of early pregnancy.
Getting enough rest and quality sleep can be a challenge, when you’re pregnant, but now, in your second pregnancy, the fact that your usual sleep patterns are changing won’t be a surprise.
Morning sickness is a signal of pregnancy, and it won’t necessarily be only, or always, in the morning. Fortunately, the nausea, general queasiness and vomiting usually pass after the first three months.
You may notice your baby’s first movements in the womb at an earlier point in your second pregnancy, and this isn’t merely because you are more aware and waiting to notice it.
It is also not unusual to gain weight differently this time, usually developing a baby bump sooner in the pregnancy than last time, but it could also be true that you gain weight in different places (more in the hips, for example) than with your first baby.
Second and subsequent labors are, as many people will tell you, generally ‘easier’ and faster than the first time, though there is no scientific evidence to back this belief.
The truth is, like each child, each pregnancy is unique. Your second pregnancy is likely to be a bit harder (because you are a bit older), but also easier, due to experience. Your body already knows how to do this.
Perhaps, much of your first pregnancy was consumed with new parent-to-be worries. This time, allow yourself to relax and enjoy your second pregnancy.
