Is My Child Overweight
The media has reported about a growing problem in the United States today. There is little to hide the fact that we are getting heavier and that weight problem that is present must be faced. The need to lose the extra pounds is not only faced by the adults, but it is also something that is threatening the young people of our country. There are many diseases and illnesses that the kids who are overweight are facing on a daily basis.
In olden days, families had to struggle physically in order to provide food and shelter. In order to provide these basic needs, much of the day was dedicated to the physical work it took to grow food and provide shelter. Time has passed by, and machines have made it easier to fulfill these basic needs without the effort and this has in part helped us get fatter. Because of all of the technology that is available to us, creating a meal for the family rarely requires much physical labor and the family can sit on their butts and enjoy the fruits of someone else’s labor. The only exercise that we get is the exercise that we choose to do. Not getting enough exercise is one of the reasons our kids are overweight.
Another cause of obesity in children is the growth of fast food restaurants. Processed foods do not always provide a balanced diet that is healthy for children. Sugar filled candy and treats are available everywhere. Kids are given treats that are not always healthy between their regular meals that they eat. It is a combination of a bad diet and periods of inactivity that can create trouble for the kids. We can no longer wait for the problem to disappear.
It might not be practical to expect a young child to start doing a fitness regimen that includes a lot of six pack ab exercises, but there are many things that a child can do to get more active throughout the course of the day, so the first key is to turn off the electronics that are filling up our houses. A child can get a football and throw it around instead of trying to beat Madden football on a video game. The best way to teach our young how to lead a healthy lifestyle is for us to lead a healthy lifestyle and show the children of the world how it is done. An overweight child does not have to learn how to lose weight fast, they need to understand how to exercise daily and eat a nutritionally balanced diet that will help them maintain a healthy weight for the rest of their life.
The other important thing to consider when trying to get a child to lose weight is to watch what they eat. There are a lot of benefits that come with eating a balanced diet that is low in fat and calories and it is not as difficult as it may seem. Children need to eat a balanced diet that includes food from all of the major food groups. They also need to eat proper portion sizes. Besides nutritious meals, a child needs nutritious snacks too. Although they are not the easiest thing to get a kid to eat, they are better off when they eat healthier snacks.
Getting a child to a healthy weight is not a simple chore to accomplish. The thought of doing it is more than some adults can deal with. If a parent is looking for help, it is available in many places from their child’s doctor, to a school’s dietician to online chat rooms such as the biggest loser forum where people are able to talk about all sorts of weight related issues. It is important for the parents to get off of the sofa and recognize the problem and then guide their child through the solution. The youth of are nation will love us for it.
